Beginners with some PHP knowledge can install, but for customization, I recommend it for intermediate and advanced users.

However, many people are now using it as a CMS for membership sites. There are many plugins/modules avaialble to extend the funtionalit. Because of its popularity, Wordpress has become a target of hack attacks. You do need to keep it updated regulary.
