I have used drupal on a free private membership site, and as the CMS system for my brothers website. It was pretty easy to install set up. It may require some template editing to get it the way you want it, but I think thats true of any CMS. I haven't tried it on a paid membership site yet, but will see how it integrates with aMember if any members request it.
